Thailand endorses UN list of 291 int'l terrorists

BANGKOK, April 23 (TNA) - Thailand, through the Ministry of Justice, has endorsed the names of 291 international terrorists on the United Nations list whom will then be looking into whether they have made any movement or supported any terrorist act in the Kingdom. Thai Justice Minister Pracha Promnok on Tuesday signed an official notification of the UN sanction list in compliance with Section 4 of the Counter-Terrorism Financing Act of B.E. 2556. The list comprises 227 individuals and 64 juristic bodies, most of the juristic parties of which relate to the Al-Qaeda militant Islamist organization and networks of its late founder Osama bin Laden. After the official signing, Thailand's Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) posted the list on its website and a ban on transactions with the listed parties takes immediate effect. The AMLO will check whether the listed parties have made any movement or have financed any terrorist group in Thailand. If their movements were discovered in the country, concerned financial institutes must immediately stop their services for the parties or they would each face a fine of up to one million baht plus a daily fine of 10,000 baht until their compliance. According to the justice minister, the announced list does not include any Thai party or the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) insurgent movement, with which the Thai government is negotiating aimed to restore peace in the violence-plagued Thai far South.
