Thailand expected to be ranked better on US human trafficking watch list

BANGKOK, June 19 (TNA) - Thailand is likely to be ranked better on the United States' human trafficking watch list, set to be announced on June 20. The Thai Ministry of Justice made the assessment on Thursday, noting that Bangkok has seriously and effectively tackled problems related to human trafficking so far. Acting Permanent Secretary for Justice Charnchao Chaiyanukij told journalists that Washington is preparing its Trafficking in Persons Report 2014 to be announced on June 20. Charnchao acknowledged that Thailand has been on the US Tier 2 Watch List for four years. The list contains countries under close watch for their human trafficking-related problems. According to the senior official, Thailand's army-led National Council for Peace and Order has announced to seriously tackle child and woman prostitution and the trafficking of migrant workers. Besides, Thailand has reported increasing probes and arrests and showed development and efforts in the solution of the problem, while also planning to protect workers in the manufacturing of five product items which are blacklisted by Washington for using laborers who are victims of human trafficking gangs; so the United States is expcted to remove Thailand from its Tier 2 Watch List this year.(TNA)
