Thailand expects rain to start after May 15

BANGKOK, May 1 (TNA) - Rainy season is expected to start first in the Central and Northeastern regions after May 15 and throughout Thailand in July. Songkran Aksorn, deputy director-general of Meteorological Department said outcome of weather forecast showed that this year’s amount of rainfall is projected to be more than in 2015 which is considered a positive sign. Two tropical storms are projected to hit northern and northeastern provinces in August and September while another on is forecast to batter the South later. Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister General Chatchai Sarikulya said after a meeting of a committee tasked with solving severe drought that “only 20 per cent of total agricultural land in the country would be within irrigation area” . The rest of agricultural area will have to depend on royal rain-making operations, over 3,000 artesian wells and water transportation to assist farmers. (TNA)
