Thailand eyes to become regional leader in space technology

BANGKOK, July 9 T(NA) - Thailand, through the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), has eyed to become a geo-informatics and space technology development centre in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the future. In order for Thailand to achieve the goal, GISTDA has invited business operators and relevant agencies to exchange information and experiences on how to further develop national economic growth and to boost the country's competitiveness based on the use of science, technologies and innovations. According to GISTDA Executive Director Dr. Anond Snidvongs na Ayudhaya, the growing space technology industry worldwide has prompted his agency to welcome cooperation with the private sector to develop new innovations to increase the industry’s value. Dr. Anond acknowledged that GISDA has already provided both the Thai private and public sectors with high resolution satellite images and Geo-informatics services, with relevant data and resources also available at the Space Krenovation Park in Chonburi province in the Thai East. Dr. Anond said that GISDA also plans to open a learning centre and a training institute to produce post graduates in the fields, including master and doctorate degrees. (TNA)
