Thailand forecast to see rises in air passenger and traffic during Chinese New Year

BANGKOK, February 18 (TNA) – The Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) expects to see rises in air traffic and air passenger at six airports across the country during the Chinese New Year period this year. The six international airports managed by the AoT are the Suvarnabhumi Airport, the Don Mueng Airport, the Chiang Mai Airport, the Chiang Rai Airport, the Phuket Airport and the Hat Yai airport. Acting AOT president Niran Teeranartsin said the airports should serve 4,318,782 passengers and 27,144 flights from February 14-26, up by 890,000 and by 3,068 year-on-year respectively. The Suvarnabhumi Airport alone is likely to see 165,783 passengers per day during the Chinese New Year period, up by 20 percent, Niran said. The number of all daily flights to visit the airport should reach 926, up by 4.3 percent. He noted that most flights are direct ones from China and the highest flight increment comes from China Eastern Airlines. Meanwhile, the Don Mueang Airport should serve 81,500 passengers per day, rising by 60 percent year-on-year, and about 600 flights a day, up by 25 percent, he said. Niran said AOT was organizing activities to celebrate the Chinese New Year and welcome visitors. It also deploys staffs to help passengers through its airports and increase security guards and their patrols at this moment. (TNA)
