Thailand to have power plants in every region

BANGKOK, August 23 (TNA) - Thailand plans to build power plants in every region, aimed at meeting rising public demand and to support the national economic growth in the future. Thai Army and National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha told the public of the policy during his weekly address on Friday night, acknowledging that power supply in the country remains insufficient currently, especially in the Thai South, due to the growing demand. General Prayuth, who was unanimously selected as Thailand’s 29th Prime Minister by National Legislative Assembly (NLA) members earlier this week, elaborated that part of the country's power supply has to be transmitted from the central and the western regions to the Thai South now; so, there is a need for strengthening national power security in order to prevent blackouts or power insufficiency in the Thai South. According to the junta chief, there is also a need for clear and transparent national power strategies in the future, both short-term and long-term ones, covering demand in the local industrial and household sectors over the next five years or 10 years.
