Thailand to help Philippines' Typhoon Haiyan victims

BANGKOK, November 12 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has ordered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate with agencies concerned to assist the Philippines, which was ravaged by Super Typhoon Haiyan, killing some 10,000 people since last week. Yingluck told journalists on Tuesday that the Thai government had sent a message to the Philippine government, expressing deep sorrow for the ASEAN neighbouring country, which was heavily hit by the natural disaster, and had assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help coordinate Thailand's donation of cash and other forms of assistance, namely dispatching medical personnel to help treat injured victims. Besides, the government-run Television Channel 11, or the National Broadcasting Televition (NBT), will also organise a special programme on Wednesday night, during which the general public are invited to donate money and necessities to help Super Typhon Haiyan's victims in the Philippines. Super Typhoon Haiyan hit the central Philippine province of Leyte last Friday and as many as 10,000 victims having perished. Meanwhile, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi said Typhoon Haiyan would not affect Thailand.(TNA)
