Thailand hits back at dog smuggling

BANGKOK, May 13 (TNA) - Thailand's Interior Minister Jarupong Ruangsuwan visited the northeastern Nakhon Phanom province on Sunday to follow up on dog smuggling problem. The Nakhon Phanom animal quarantine center is now taking care of over 2,000 smuggled dogs. The funding to help look after the dogs currently stands at only 3 million baht, not an adequate amount to provide them help, as they require at least 40,000-50,000 baht worth of food and other expenses per day. The minister said he would gather all the information and discuss the problem in the ministerial meeting. He stressed that talks are needed between governmental agencies, NGOs and dog traders to find common solutions. (TNA)
