Thailand holds annual Royal Ploughing Ceremony

BANGKOK, May 13 (TNA) - His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn presided over the Royal Ploughing Ceremony at Bangkok’s Sanam Luang ceremonial grounds Monday morning. In the ceremony, royal oxen ate corn and grass indicating abundant water and food supplies this year. The royal ploughman also drew a 48-inch-long sarong in a prediction draw, leading to forecasts that there would be enough water supplies and success in highland paddy fields. However, lowland paddy fields may be partly damaged. While Thai farmers regard the day of the Royal Ploughing as an opportune time to start cultivation, Cambodian farmers also share the same belief. Border trade along Thailand’s Chanthaburi province had witnessed growth in the sales of plants seeds and fertilizers. Local traders said they expected over 60 million baht expected to change hands on Monday. (TNA)
