Thailand holds international education seminar

BANGKOK, June 23 (TNA) - More than 1,000 international education experts and teachers on Sunday attended the opening of a three-day seminar in Bangkok, aimed at mobilising international educational know-how cooperation to improve educational standards in Thailand. Organised by the Thai Education Ministry’s Office of the Education Council, the annual seminar entitled ‘Education for Thailand’s Future’ is being held at a Bangkok hotel. Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Phongthep Thepkanjana said while presiding over the opening ceremony of the seminar that the Thai government’s policy is to raise educational standards in the country by adopting some of foreign research works on education, for example, the National Qualification Framework in which Thailand is developing, aimed at allowing experienced people in other professions to be able to transfer to pursue higher learning within the system. Mr. Phongthep said several countries are already practicing the system. Also, an information technology is presently being used widely in educational system. Among those major issues to be discussed at the international seminar are the ‘National Qualification Framework for ASEAN’, ‘Education Policy Review with UNESCO and OECD’, and the ‘Teacher Development Roadmap’.
