BANGKOK, July 28 (TNA) - Thailand will, next month, host an international conference on biodiversity in honour of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. Uthai Aue-areejit, Deputy Director of the Biodiversity-Based Economy Development Office (BEDO), in his capacity as the BEDO Acting Director, told journalists on Thursday that his public organisation will organise the international conference on biodiversity in the country during August 22-26 to also celebrate the 9th anniversary of the BEDO establishment on August 19. Uthai said that Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will preside over the opening of the five-day international conference at the Government Complex in Chaeng Watthana area on the outskirts of Bangkok, the venue of the conference. Uthai stressed that the main objective of BEDO's holding the five-day conference is aimed to honour His Majesty the King on the auspicious occasion of the 70th anniversary of His Majesty's accession to the throne and the 84th birthday anniversary of Her Majesty the Queen, who is also honoured as Thailand's Mother of Biodiversity. According to the BEDO acting director, exhibitions on Thailand's progress in biodiversity and on Their Majesties the King and Queen's royal projects and activities, as well as a special lecture given by a Nobel Prize-winning scientist in 2007 will also be included as part of the international conference on biodiversity.
