Thailand to host int'l mathematics competition

BANGKOK, July 29 (TNA) - Thailand will host an international mathematics competition in northern resort Chiang Mai Province next month, in which primary and secondary-level students, teachers and education personnel from 35 countries will participate. Karun Sakulpradit, Secretary-General of the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), under the Ministry of Education, told journalists on Friday that the Thailand International Mathematics Competition (TIMC) 2016 will be held during August 14-20 and his office has selected 48 Thai students to represent the country in the one-week competition. According to the OBEC chief, the upcoming competition will be divided into two categories, including the Elementary Mathematics International Competition (EMIC) 2016 and the World Youth Mathematics Inter-Cities Competition (WYIMC) 2016. The OBEC chief said there will also be other activities organised as part of the one week-event, including an international symposium and those for public knowledge and cultural exchange. (TNA)
