Thailand hosts 16th ACAMM

BANGKOK, November 23 (TNA) - Thailand hosts the 16th ASEAN Chiefs of Army Multilateral Meeting (ACAMM) from November 22-26, 2015, in which army chiefs of all 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) participate. Thai Army Chief General Theerachai Nakvanich opened the 16th ACAMM in Bangkok on November 23, during which he said ASEAN army chiefs made history with the first ACAMM in 2000 and ASEAN armies are now aware of growing threats in the region and necessity to jointly cope with them. General Theerachai referred to natural threats and manmade ones, including terrorist attacks, transnational crime and the abuse of technologies. According to the Thai army chief, the 16th ACAMM focuses on the readiness of ASEAN armies to respond to challenges over the next five years, the agenda of which continue from last year, as well as to promote cooperation at bilateral and multilateral levels between member states and partners in order to jointly cope with various forms of threats. The Thai army chief stressed that the 16th ACAMM not only improves relations, but also better integrates ASEAN armies and significantly supports the ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC). (TNA)
