Thailand hosts ASEAN Social Work Consortium Conference

BANGKOK, August 14 (TNA) - Thailand, through the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, hosts the ASEAN Social Work Consortium (ASWC) Conference, the third of its kind, aimed to enhance regional cooperation among social work education practitioners and institutes. Thai Permanent Secretary for Social Development and Human Security Wichian Chawalit inaugurated the 3rd ASWC Conference in Bangkok on Thursday, attended by representatives from 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the 10-member bloc's three dialogue partners, including China, South Korea and Japan, as well as those from the ASEAN Secretariat and other public and private agencies. Wichian said Thailand and the Philippines may serve as role models for other countries in the region in the social work development, as both countries have experiences and legislation on the social work profession and have included social work courses in universities, namely Thammasat University and Hua Chiew Chalermprakiat University in Thailand. Thursday's ASEAN+3 ASWC Conference was part of regional preparations for the formation of the ASEAN Community (AC) by the end of 2015. (TNA)
