Thailand hosts Intl Fleet Review 2017

CHONBURI, Nov 21 (TNA) - ASEAN countries' naval forces take part in the International Fleet Review 2017 and other activities in Thailand's Pattaya city making the 50th anniversary of the regional bloc's establishment. Navy commanders-in-chief of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) members have gathered for the regional conference and related events with the participation of more than 5,000 officers and 40 warships. Thailand's Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha on Monday morning observed the International Fleet Review 2017, starting with a gun salute on a Thai warship. Besides 10 ASEAN countries, Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, Russia, Japan, Pakistan, South Korea and Sri Lanka have sent their naval ships to join the parade. ASEAN countries have endorsed the adoption of “Asean Navies Stronger Together Forever” as the grouping’s official song. According to the Royal Thai Navy, Asean members have pledged to boost regional cooperation to protect the maritime environment and combat piracy. After observing the parade, Prime Minister Prayut will host a reception dinner for the participating naval officers at a hotel in Pattaya. (TNA)
