Thailand hosts meetings on ASEAN competitiveness

BANGKOK, March 19 (TNA) - Thailand hosts the 13th Meeting of the ASEAN Experts Group on Competition and Related Meetings in Bangkok from March 19-21, in which competition-related authorities from members countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), as well as representatives of the ASEAN Secretariat and the German International Cooperation participate. Santichai Santawanpas, Deputy Director-General of the Thai Ministry of Commerce's Department of Internal Trade, told journalists on Wednesday that his department, in its capacity as the Office of Thai Trade Competition Commission (OTCC), organizes the 13th Meeting of the ASEAN Experts Group on Competition and Related Meetings, which comprise three elements, including the 13th ASEAN Experts Group on Competition Meeting (AEGC Meeting), the 4th Project Streering Committee Meeting (PSC) and the 1st Website Committee meeting. Santichai elaborated that the AEGC Meeting gathers ASEAN competitiveness experts who discuss the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by 2015, while at the PSC meeting, ASEAN member states discuss the enhancement of ASEAN competitiveness with the German International Cooperation and at the 1st Website Committee meeting, the participants address responsibilities for the operations of the www.aseancompetition.org website. The website, officially launched in November 2013, contains data relating to the competitiveness of ASEAN, including laws, policies, guidelines and information concerning trade competition. The meetings are expected to also promote fair trade in the lead-up to the AEC. (TNA)
