Thailand hosts regional forum on climate change

BANGKOK, July 3 (TNA) - Thailand hosts a regional forum on climate change from July 1-3, aimed to have its results become part of a regional stance of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), in which the Kingdom is a member country, for discussions at the 21st Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, also known as COP 21, to be held in Paris, France's capital, late this year. The three-day Regional Forum on Climate Change (RFCC)–Low carbon and Climate Resilient Societies: Bridging Science, Practice and Policy in Bangkok was jointly organized by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, the ASEAN Secretariat and the European Union (EU), in which 400 international scientists and policy makers participated. The three-day forum became ASEAN nogotiators' platform to build up their common position to cope with the problem of global warming or climate change prior to the pivotal COP 21, set to be held in Paris from November 30–December 11, in which representatives from 195 countries will participate to discuss and conclude a new urgently-needed international accord on climate change under which all countries worldwide are obliged to limit the global warming to below 2 degree Celcius.
