BANGKOK, January 15 (TNA) - ]The Thai government, through the Ministry of Transport's Department of Rural Roads, plans to install bilingual direction signs on rural roads to facilitate visitors from neighboring countries and to welcome the formation of the ASEAN Community (AC) by the end of this year. Darun Saengchai, Director-General of the Department of Rural Roads, told journalists on Wednesday that his department has allocated a budget of 264 million baht to install the bilingual direction signs on rural roads to welcome travelers from ASEAN neighboring countries. Darun said that such signs will bear English and the language of a neighboring country near the region of the roads. In the Thai South, Darun cited as an example, direction signs will give data in English and Jawi, while those in regions near Cambodia will bear English and Cambodian messages. According to the senior official, the installation of such signs will be done over the next five years and the 264-million-baht fund is part of his department's 62-billion-baht budget for road construction and repair during the same period.
