Thailand Issues Postage Stamps To Help Nepal Quake Victims

KATHMANDU, May 29 (Bernama) -- Thailand has released a set of 20 postage stamps on Nepal in a bid to collect funds for providing relief to Nepal's earthquake victims. According to the Nepalese Embassy in Bangkok, the Thai Post Office released the postage stamps on Nepal Thursday at an event called "Thailand Post for Nepal", which sought to collect funds to help Nepal's earthquake victims. Nepalese Ambassador to Thailand Khaga Nath Adhikari was a guest of honour at the function organised to release the stamps, it said in a statement. An earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale struck Nepal on April 25, followed by several powerful aftershocks, which killed at least 8,600 people, rendered more than a half million people homeless and damaged property worth billions of dollars (ringgit). Nepal says rehabilitation and reconstruction will require at least US$5 billion (RM18.2 billion) for which it has sought commitment from the international community. --BERNAMA
