Thailand, Japan ink MOU on flood early warning system

BANGKOK, September 12 (TNA) - The Thai and Japanese governments have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on a flood early warning system to boost Japanese investors' confidence in Thailand. Deputy Prime Minister Plodprasop Surasawasdi signed the MOU with visiting Japanese Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transportation and Tourism Akihiro Ota during their meeting in Bangkok on Thursday to discuss coordination on water-borne disaster management between the Thai and Japanese governments. The accord involves relevant agencies of both allied countries, including the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, the Office of the National Water and Flood Management Policy and the Meteorological Department. The Thai deputy premier said he informed the Japanese side that Thailand will then link the real-time national disaster warning system, based on the advance information technology (IT), with that of Japan system to ensure confidence in Thailand, particularly at industrial sites, among Japanese investors. The Japanese side, in response, thanked and welcomed the Thai initiative. (TNA)
