Thailand joins "Save the Arctic 100%" campaign

BANGKOK, September 5 (TNA) - Thailand joins forces with 19 other countries, under the umbrella of Greenpeace Southeast Asia, in launching the "Save the Arctic 100%" campaign, aimed to conserve the international waters from industrial exploitations in order to uphold the significant balance of the Earth's atmosphere. Greenpeace Thailand, led by Thara Buakamsri, took journalists for a boat ride in Bangkok and adjacent provinces on the Chao Phraya River on Thursday to create public awareness on the global campaign, by putting up the banner, "Save the Arctic 100%", at skyscrapers situated along the main Thai river. In mid-September each year, the Arctic region normally faces ice melting at the highest rate, its most vulnerable situation yearly, and this year ice melting in the world's North Pole has been seen at a historic highest record, prompting all the 20 countries to be on high alert to protect the Arctic Ocean against exploiters, namely large oil production firms and fishing groups, as their encroachments in the region speed up the rate of ice melting and critically affect the balance of the Earth, including raising the sea levels and escalating the now alarming global warming or climate change problem. More than 4.5 million people worldwide have already signed their names in support of the campaign. Greenpeace Thailand said the Arctic is like the world's large natural air conditioner, which helps balance the Earth's temperatures, and any adverse effect in the region will, thus, affect everyone on the Earth inevitably.
