Thailand, Laos launch joint anti-human trafficking campaign

UBON RATCHATHANI, June 15 (TNA) - Thailand and neighbouring Laos have jointly launched an anti-human trafficking campaign across the border, aimed to promote learning against human-trafficking, especially among youths. Officials from the Office of Social Development and Human Security in Thailand's northeastern Ubon Ratchathani Province and those from Laos' Champasak Province jointly launched the campaign at the Chong Mek border crossing in Ubon Ratchathani on Thursday. Ubon Ratchathani Deputy Governor Adisak Thep-art said that the campaign is also aimed to promote Thai and Lao people's participation in prevention and suppression of other cross-border crime by helping monitor suspicious activities and providing tip-offs to authorities concerned. According to the deputy governor, such cross-border cooperation is hoped to help protect vulnerable people in impoverished rural areas of the two close neighbouring countries. (TNA)
