BANGKOK, July 1 (TNA) - Thailand will learn on effective water management systems in the European Union (EU) to be applied for the comprehensive and practical water management in the country. Somkiat Prajamwong, Secretary General of the Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR), under the Prime Minister's Office, told journalists on June 30 that the Thai government, through his office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will look into appropriate cooperation frameworks with EU member countries that are specialized in water management in different systems, covering the meteorology, innovations and advanced technologies, to cope with the problem of climate change and the establishment of infrastructure for the solution to drought and floods on the sustainable basis. "My office has discussed the move with the Department of European Affairs, under the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to work together towards bilateral cooperation agreements with the specialized EU member countries to be applied to circumstances in Thailand, especially the flooding problem in Bangkok", Somkiat said. The senior official stated that Thailand has particularly paid attention to the EU's effective meteorological and database systems in areas at risk of floods, relevant machines and tools for the development of water gates and the efficient drainage system and practical flood prevention systems.
