Thailand to make counterclaims on World Court Case

BANGKOK, April 16 (TNA) - Thailand will begin presenting its oral arguments at the World Court on Wednesday after Cambodia finishes its first round of statements. Speaking to the press over the phone, Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said he had told the World Court that Thailand and Cambodia had different interpretations of the 1962 ruling over ownership of Preah Vihear Temple. Surapong added that Thailand’s legal team, including Ambassador of Thailand to the Hague Virachai Plasai, and three other legal advisers, was not at all concerned about the Cambodian claims made in court at this stage, saying they had been expected. Meanwhile, at the Thai-Cambodian borderland, a friendly, peaceful and co-operative environment had remained. The local people at Ban Phum Srol village in Kantharalak district of Si Sa Ket province had given confidence over the Thai government’s handling of the world court case, and would prevail in the legal battle.
