Thailand makes progress in solution to child labour

BANGKOK, September 8 (TNA) - Thailand has made much progress in efforts to address human trafficking-related problems, namely use of child labour, as alleged by the United States. The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security said on Monday that it and other concerned agencies plan to report Thailand’s efforts against human trafficking and labour abuse by March 2015 to convince Washington to remove the Kingdom from its Tier 3 human-trafficking watch list in June 2015. The ministry noted that the army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has implement measures to legalize and protect migrant workers in Thailand and to suppress human traffickers. As Thailand has been downgraded by Washington from its Tier 2 to the Tier 3 watch list on the alleged human trafficking-related problems, US President Barack Obama is authorized to implement non-trade sanctions against the Kingdom within 90 days, or by October 2014, after Thailand was included in the lowest-level watch list, and Thai agencies concerned have, thus, closely followed up the updated situation.
