Thailand marks Armed Forces Day

BANGKOK, January 18 (TNA) – Thailand’s supreme military commander and armed forces chiefs attended a ceremony to mark the annual national Armed Forces Day on Sunday. In the ceremony at the National Memorial in Bangkok city, Supreme Commander Gen Worapong Sa-nganet, Army chief Gen Udomdej Sitabutr, Navy chief Adm Kraisorn Chansuwanit, Air Force chief ACM Trithos Sonjaeng, national police chief Pol Gen Somyot Poompanmoung and other high-ranking officers laid wreaths at the statue of King Rama V and worshipped all the nine great kings of Thailand. The ceremony also included religious rites to make merits to honor Thai warriors and ancestors for their heroic acts in protecting the nation. The Thai Armed Forces Day falls on January 18 to honour the victory of King Naresuan the Great over the Crown Prince of Burma Maha Upparacha on Jan 18, 1592.
