Thailand moves forward toward barrier-free society for int'l PWDs

BANGKOK, January 10 (TNA) - Thailand, mainly through the Ministry of Transport, is going ahead with an official policy on promoting and turning the Thai Kingdom to become a barrier-free society for international persons with disabilities (PWDs). The Ministry of Transport is, therefore, improving transport facilities nationwide, covering those at bus terminals, piers and airports, to ensure accessibility to international PWDs and even the elderly. Thitima Chaisaeng, Secretary to Transport Minister, and representatives of PWDs visited Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport on Wednesday to inspect targeted areas being improved for the PWDs accessibility, based on an official motto, "Convenient, Safe, Modern Thai Transportation with Care for PWDs", covering two parking spaces for PWDs' vehicles in front of passenger terminals which are allowed for a 15-minute parking each, as well as 18 other facilities, including, entrances and exits at the airport, ramps for wheelchairs, rails on stairs, machines to help PWDs to get on or off aircraft, barrier-free restrooms, lifts and public telephone booths and even information signs.
