Thailand-Myanmar annual boat racing held

BANGKOK, February 15 (TNA) - Myanmar and Thai people including foreign tourists on Sunday lined along the banks of mighty Salween River to watch the 2015 Thailand-Myanmar boat racing. The annual event, aimed at strengthening relations between peoples of the two countries and promote tourism, was organised in Sop Moei district of Mae Hong Son province. A total of 36 boats participated in the racing. Tourists were also given an opportunity to travel in long-tailed boats free of charge and traveled along the river and admired the beauty of scenery along the banks. Several exciting events including Miss Salween beauty contest were also held Sunday evening to attract the people living along the river banks. In another development, Thai authorities said considerable progress had been made on the single-track electric train or monorail project, designed for easing traffic problem in Hat Yai district, Songkhla province. Authorities of Songkhla Provincial Administration Organisation said majority of people attending the three meetings, held previously in the past, had voted in favour of the project. Several foreign investors, including from South Korea and Germany, had also expressed enthusiasm in the project. (TNA)
