Thailand not affected by Myanmar quake

BANGKOK, July 21 (TNA) - Thailand has not been affected by a 5.6-magnitude earthquake which struck neighboring Myanmar on Tuesday morning. Somboon Khositanont, Director of the Environmental Geology Bureau, under the Thai Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, told journalists that an initial survey found that the earthquake, which took place at 8:27am in an area in Myanmar, located about 171 kilometers Northwest of Khun Yuam District of Mae Hong Son Province in the Thai North, had no impact on Thailand. However, Somboon conceded that the quake's energy, released from Myanmar’s Sagaing fault line, could affect four fault lines in Thailand in the future, including Mae Hong Son and Mae Ping fault lines in the North and Srisawat and Three Pagodas fault lines in the West, especially Mae Ping and Srisawat fault lines, in which no movement has yet been reported so far.
