Thailand observes Teachers' Day

BANGKOK, January 16 (TNA) - As previous years, Thailand observes the Teachers' Day on January 16, with Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha presiding over a national-level event inaugurating the Teachers' Day 2015. Delivering his speech at the event, held at the Khurusapha or the Teachers Council of Thailand in Bangkok on Friday morning, Prime Minister General Prayut praised and expressed gratitude to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej as the "Teacher of the Nation", while lauding all good teachers. On the occasion, the prime minister also paid respect to his two teachers who taught him English and mathematics when he was young. The prime ministe also presented plaques of honour to selected teachers with outstanding teaching roles. Meanwhile, Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra presided over an event marking the Teachers' Day for schools under the supervision of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), during which he told teachers and administrators of public schools under the City Authority that BMA will provide financial support to them and promote outstanding teachers, aimed at boosting their morale. At the event, held at Thailand-Japan Bangkok Youth Centre, the Bangkok government urged more than 3,000 BMA teachers to both provide knowledge and act as a shield for youths amid rising influence of capitalism and materialism in the modern world. The Bangkok govenor called on BMA teachers to help teach their students not to become a prey of the danger in the modern society with global rapid changes, as the younger generations attach more importance to materialism. Souvenirs, pins and certificates were also handed by the Bangkok governor to 28 outstanding BMA teachers. (TNA)
