Thailand observes Teachers' Day

BANGKOK, January 16 (TNA) - Thailand observes Teachers' Day on January 16, when Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha calls on teachers to always develop themselves to keep pace with the rapid changing global situation, while also playing a role model for their students. The prime minister made the call while presiding over a Teachers' Day event at the Ministry of Education in Bangkok on Monday, during which he paid respect and presented a souvenir to his English and history teachers to show his gratitude to the aging teachers of the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy. The prime minister said teachers are the second parents of children who give knowledge and guide their students to do good deeds for the society; so, teachers are a prestigious occupation. The premier also called on teachers to instill the value of rules and regulations into their students' minds, encouraging them to strictly adhere to the laws and give importance to human rights and freedom. "Students must be taught to understand the international democratic system, but must also realise the Thai identity, as taking everything from foreign countries may not perfectly fit the Thai society", the prime minister suggested.
