Thailand observes World Environment Day 2013

BANGKOK, June 5 (TNA) - Thailand observes World Environment Day, which falls on every June 5, when all sectors in the society are encouraged to help relieve the problem of global warming or climate change and conserve natural resources. In Trang province in the Thai South, for instance, Manapat Wongsanuwat, Director of Trang's provincial natural resources and environment office, on Wednesday led a team of natural resources and environment conservation volunteers to raise funds and donations of used aluminium materials for the production of prosthetic leg devices, which also helps ease the problem of global warming. Besides, the team launched a campaign to create public awareness on the conservation of Trang's forests and marine species. World Environment Day 2013 is internationally observed under the theme of "Think-Eat-Save" to promote environmental-friendly consumption among world population, covering their awareness against lavish food wastes, to reduce environmental risks and the deterioration of ecological systems. Every June 5 is also designated as National Rice and Farmers Day in Thailand to signify Thai grains and to honour local farmers as the back-bone of the country since the old days. (TNA)
