CHONBURI, THAILAND, November 29 (TNA)- Thailand, through the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), has opened the Space Krenovation Park or SKP, the first of its kind in the Kingdom, to support national and regional research and development (R&D) projects on geo-informatics and space technology. GISTDA Executive Director Dr. Anond Snidvongs na Ayudhya told reporters that the SKP, which was inaugurated on November 28, 2012, is also aimed at creating added values for products of relevant businesses, including space equipment parts, batteries and high-definition satellite-navigated maps and images, globally worth trillions of baht, and at enhancing the potential of the geo-informatics and space technology in the Single Economic Community of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The Thai SKP, situated in the Thaichote Ground Control Station in Sri Racha district of the country's eastern seaside Chonburi province, comprises seven main structures, including satellite control units, an ASEAN-level geo-informatics centre, training facilities for new operators and even students in relevant businesses and faculties and rented R&D spaces for the private sector. Wednesday's SKP inauguration also included the signing of agreements with domestic and international allies on cooperation on the geo-informatics and space technology. (TNA)
