Thailand to play central role for cyber security in AC

BANGKOK, November 28 (TNA) - Thailand will play a key role as a center for cooperation among member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on enhancing and strengthening cyber security in the ASEAN Community (AC). Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Air Chief Marshal Prachin Jantong told journalists on November 27 that Thailand will play the role in 2019 when the Kingdom alternately takes the chairmanship of the 10-member ASEAN bloc, after Singapore in 2018. The deputy prime minister explained that the cyber security is significant as the Thai government, for instance, has emphasized on expanding and strengthening the digital connectivity in the region through such physical infrastructure as marine cable projects, as well as computer software, applications on smart phones and relevant rules and regulations, especially among Thailand and Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam, known as the CLMVT group. "As the cyberspace has become increasingly important nowadays regionally and globally, the key role to enhance and strengthen the cyber security for the safe connectivity of the Internet and the digital networks in the AC is needed and Thailand will include the role as the country's agenda during next year's ASEAN chairmanship", said the Thai deputy prime minister.
