Thailand presents financial assistance to Myanmar

BANGKOK, August 20 (TNA) - Thailand has handed out a 200,000-US dollar financial assistance to Myanmar to support solutions to violence in the neighbouring country's Rakhine State. Thai Supreme Commander General Thanasak Patimaprakorn, who is also a deputy chief of the army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) overseeing national security, presided over a ceremony to present the humanitarian assistance of the Thai government and people to the Rakhine State and local people, through Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand H.E. U Win Maung, at the Royal Thai Armed Forces headquarters in Bangkok on Tuesday, in which Acting Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, who is also Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, participated In response, the Myanmar ambassador expressed gratitude to the Thai government for the financial support, as well as policies on regulating migrant workers and facilitating imported farm products from Myanmar through border passes. The Myanmar top envoy also stressed on strengthening bilateral relations between the two neighbouring nations. The fund will be reportedly use to improve the public health system, promote agriculture and develop quality of life of people in the Rakhine State. (TNA)
