Thailand to propose Chao Phraya communities new world heritage

BANGKOK, May 30 (TNA) - Thailand eyes to propose communities and assets along the country's main Chao Phraya River a new world heritage. Chao Phraya River Development Project Deputy Manager Kamol Kiatruangkamala aired the idea on May 29, when the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), in cooperation with King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) and Khon Kaen University (KKU), inaugurated the Chao Phra Heritage Study Centre, situated along a bank of the river under the Rama VIII Bridge in the capital, after it was unofficially launched in March 2016. Kamol told journalists that key historical information and objects related to the Chao Phraya River have been gathered at the newly-opened centre, including those on the ways of life and cultures of people in communities along the riversides, as well as archaeological sites and artifacts. Kamol said that the Chao Phraya River Development Project also includes the restoration and conservation of cultural landscapes along the Chao Phraya River for younger generations, as well as the development of riverside-walkways. Besides, his project plans to propose to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to list the communities and assets along the Chao Phraya River as a new world heritage.
