Thailand provides humanitarian assistance to Palestinians

BANGKOK, September 3 (TNA) - Thailand has donated 100,000 US dollars, or about 3.2 million baht, as a humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, through a UN agency. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Wednesday that Thailand welcomes a recent agreement on an indefinite truce in the Gaza Strip between Israel and the armed Hamas group, an islamic resistance movement, mediated by Egypt. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Thailand was concerned over impacts on and troubles of the innocent in the Gaza Strip over the past two months and, as a member of the United Nations, the Kingdom has donated the 100,000-US dollar humanitarian assistance for the affected Palestinian people. According to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs' statement, the donation responds to an earlier request from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that Thailand has repeatedly and consistently called on all sides to the conflict in the Middle East to exert maximum efforts toward a peaceful and permanent solution to the conflict and now more than ever, Bangkok sorely reminds that such a solution can and must be achieved only through peaceful negotiations. Thailand will continue to urge and plead with all sides to the conflict to return to the negotiating table for their children’s better future, living side by side in peace and security. (TNA)
