Thailand to quickly assist Rohingya immigrants

BANGKOK, August 13 (TNA) - The Coordination Center of Thailand's Sheikhul Islam Office, southern branch, has announced that assistance for Muslim Rohingya immigrants will be quickly proposed to the government. Wisuth Billateh, head of the center, told reporters on Tuesday that he will soon discuss the assistance with members of provincial Islamic committees who take care of the Rohingya immigrants, rescued from human traffickers early this year. Recently, 30 Rohingya people under the care of the Sadao police station in Songkhla Province escaped from the station and 19 of them were brought back. Wisuth said he had visited the Rohingya migrants who were under extreme tension due to their unclear fate, as well as assistance and the congestion of their accommodation, and insisted on traveling to a third-party country to meet their relatives. Wisuth urged the Thai government to discuss assistance for the ethnic Rohingya people with other countries, including Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates, which have offered financial support, as well as food and care through the provincial Islamic committee in Songkhla. Wisuth suggested that the Rohingya migrants in Thailand go to work in the United Arab Emirates, in which there is financially ready. Wisuth affirmed that he will propose conclusions from his discussion with local Islamic authorities to the Thai government. (TNA)
