Thailand records rising number of hypertension patients

BANGKOK, May 16 (TNA) - The number of deaths related to hypertension in Thailand increased to over 5,000 last year. The World Hypertension League designated May 17 as the World Hypertension Day to raise awareness on high blood pressure prevention. Suphan Srithamma, Director- General of Department of Medical Services said the World Health Organization reported one billion patients are suffering from hypertension and it is one of the main causes of premature deaths worldwide. According to Thailand’s public health permanent secretary office, the country recorded over 5,000 deaths related to hypertension in 2014, higher than 3,600 deaths in the previous year. Risk factors that cause hypertension include improper food intake and lack of exercise. (TNA)
