Thailand remains world’s top rice exporter in first four months

BANGKOK, April 25 (TNA) - Thailand exported 2.63 million tonnes of milled rice during the first four months of this year, up 5.2 per cent from the corresponding period of 2014, maintaining its No.1 position in the world in terms of rice export, according to an announcement released by Thai Rice Exporters Association on Friday. The announcement quoted figures released by The Rice Trader as saying that India ranked second in term of rice export with rice shipments amounting to about 2.59 million tonnes during the period, followed by Pakistan with exports of 1.56 million tonnes, Vietnam at 1.45 million tonnes and the United States at 931,000 tonnes. During the calendar 2014, the Rice Trader said Thailand was the world’s largest rice exporters, exporting 10.96 million tonnes of milled rice, an increase of 55 per cent from the previous year, while India ranked second with rice shipments of 10.81 million tonnes and Vietnam was in the third place, exporting approximately 6.69 million tonnes of milled rice.
