Thailand to report on progress against alleged human trafficking to US

BANGKOK, January 8 (TNA) - The government plans to send a report on Thailand's progress against alleged human trafficking issues to Washington by the end of this month. The Thai government has, thus, approved the setting up of a committee to oversee policies against alleged human trafficking and illegal fishing and the setting up of five supportive sub-committees. The decisions were announced after a meeting on solutions to Thailand's alleged human trafficking and illegal fishing problems, chaired by Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha, who is also Chief of the army-led National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), held at Bangkok's Government House on Thursday. At the meeting, the prime minister ordered that the newly-set up committee and its five sub-committees accelerate concluding Thailand's progress on solutions to the alleged issues to be forwarded to Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, in his capacity as the chair of the government's human trafficking prevention and suppression committee by January 12. General Prawit's committee will then review and have the report translated into English to be sent to the US government by January 31. Meanwhile, General Prawit told journalists that the Thai government should be able to convince the international community of its efforts against the alleged human trafficking issues because the administration has done well on the issues and will submit a straightforward report to Washington by the end of this month.
