Thailand to restructure police system

BANGKOK, December 2 (TNA) - Thailand plans to restructure the Royal Thai Police and the overall police system. A subcommittee on law and justice reform resolved, at its meeting in Bangkok on Tuesday, to push for the plan. Under the plan, the subcommittee proposed that the Royal Thai Police and the Royal Thai Police Board be dissolved and the new National Police Affairs Council be set up instead. The subcommittee also proposed that Thai police be divided into central, regional and local police with each authority to determine its own power and duties. Besides, the subcommittee proposed that civilians take part in supervising police's operations, transfers, removals, promotion and dismissals. (TNA)
