"Thailand Rivera" project on top of agenda of mobile Cabinet meeting Aug 20-21

BANGKOK, August 20 (TNA) - The upgrade of local logistics systems to support industries, investment, trade and border trade in areas in the Thai South, covering the "Thailand Rivera" project, under which a coastal road along the Gulf of Thailand will be constructed together with development projects in all other areas, will be the top of agenda of the mobile Cabinet meeting, set in the southern Ranong and Chumphon Provinces during August 20-21. Speaking to journalists of the agenda, Government Spokesman Lieutenant Sansern Kaewkamnerd stated that the other development projects, apart from the "Thailand Rivera" project, include the development of a new railway and a potential port, as well as the expansion of the Hat Yai Airport in Songkhla Province. The spokesman said the development of potential of local tourism is also included in the agenda, covering measures on the promotion of public safety at local tourist sites, the improvement of tourism routes and the prevention of floods and water management as part of the development of natural resources and environment. Besides, the further development of local production with more value-added products, covering the establishment of an oil palm city and an innovative and design city of rubber wood, as well as the development of quality of life of local people, covering measures to promote the opening of international health centers and to strengthen local communities through the establishment of One Tambon One Product Academy (OTOP Academy) in the region, are included in the agenda. The spokesman acknowledged that the Thai Cabinet will also consider other proposed economic and social development plans of southern coastal provinces both along the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea. According to the spokesman, for Ranong Province alone, Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha also intends to follow up the progress of local health tourism promotional projects, local port development and local marine resource restoration through artificial coral reefs, while for Chumphon Province, the prime minister intends to follow up the progress of local water management projects, covering the solution to flooding and drought and the practical allocation of water to farmlands, and the promotion of local wisdom for processed agricultural food products. "The mobile Cabinet meeting on August 20-21 is mainly aimed to support to the full potential of the economic and social development in the southern Thai region to upgrade living conditions and quality of life of local people, not aimed to conduct an electoral campaign in order to gain any political benefit", the spokesman stressed.
