Thailand secured Malaysia's full cooperation on far South's solution

MALAYSIA, January 10 (TNA) - Malaysia has promised to help Thailand solve violent unrest in the insurgency-plagued Thai far South and clearly announced Kuala Lumpur's opposition to separatism. Secretary-general of Thailand’s National Security Council (NSC) Lieutenant General Paradon Pattanathabutr told TNA that Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak pledged the full support to Thailand during his meeting with visiting Thai security authorities, led by Thai Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung, in Malaysia's Putrajaya City Thursday morning. The NSC chief, who is a member of the Thai delegation visiting Malaysia from January 8-10, revealed that the discussion happened in very good atmosphere and the Malaysian prime minister also agreed to support negotiations between the Thai government and insurgents operating in the Thai deep South. Besides, the NSC chief said that Malaysia has announced clearly it disagrees with separatism and will fully cooperate for the social, political and economic stability of Thailand in the lead-up to the establishment of the ASEAN Community (AC) by 2015, with the Malaysian prime minister to discuss relevant issues when he meets his Thai counterpart Yingluck Shinawatra early next month. According to the NSC chief, Thai and Malaysian security authorities are monitoring the situation in the southernmost Thai region closely and Malaysia is ready to mediate, by applying peace solutions in Mindanao of the Philippines, where negotiations had led to a truce, and is considering Thailand’s proposal on the legal employment of Thai workers and is working together with Thailand to address the problem of people holding both Thai and Malaysian citizenships for the sake of mutual security.
