Thailand sends 4th medical team to quake-hit Nepal

BANGKOK, May 25 (TNA) - The Thai government, through the Ministry of Public Health, has sent the 4th medical team to assist quake vicitms in Nepal, as requested by the South Asian nation's government. The 4th Thai medical team left Bangkok for Kathmandu, Nepal's capital, on May 25 and will work at a field hospital in a quake-affected area until June 7. The 14-member Thai medical personnel comprise of four doctors, five nurses and health experts, with their mission focused on general medical services, mental health rehabilitation and support for environmental and community sanitation. Dr. Anurak Amornphetsataporn, Director of the ministry's Bureau of Public Health Emergency Respond, told reporters that the 4th Thai medical team was sent to Nepal after a recent meeting between the Thai and Nepalese public health ministers on the sidelines of the 68th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, during which the Nepalese side thanked the Thai government for well assisting Nepal and asked the Thai administration to continue sending Thai medical teams to take care of people in quake-hit areas for about two months. Meanwhile, the 3rd Thai medical team provided treatment for 1,935 patients in Nepal, most cases of which were general medical services. (TNA)
