Thailand sends medical, water personnel to assist flood victims in Myanmar

BANGKOK, August 27 (TNA) - The Thai military has sent over 50 medical personnel and field water workers to assist flood victims in neighbouring Myanmar in their nine-day mission, set from August 27 to September 4. Royal Thai Army Deputy Spokeswoman Colonel Sirichan Nga-thong told journalists that the Thai medical personnel and field water workers left Bangkok for Yangon on Thursday morning to help flood victims in the neighbouring country in line with the Thai government's policy. The deputy spokeswoman said upon their arrival in Yangon via a military C-130 aircraft, the Royal Thai Armed Forces' medical personnel and water workers were heading to Hinthada City, about 60 kilometres Northwest of the former Myanmar capital, to start their nine-day mission to assist local flood victims. According to the deputy spokeswoman, Thai Army Chief General Udomdej Sitabutr held talks with his visiting Myanmar counterpart on August 25 and pledged to provide assistance to Myanmar in all areas, if requested, after the Royal Thai Army earlier presented an initial financial support of one million baht to the neighbouring country, where more than 100 people reportedly drowned and some 100,000 others displaced in a massive flooding recently.
