Thailand to set up Ministry of Digital Economy

BANGKOK, September 19 (TNA) - The Thai government, headed by Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan O-cha, plans to set up the new Ministry of Digital Economy, replacing the existing Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), to ensure integral work and impartial management amid the changing situation both domestically and internationally. General Prayuth told journalists of the plan on Friday, saying that he believes the process, being spearheaded by ICT Minister Pornchai Rujiprapa, should show signs of progress soon. General Prayuth stressed that the newly-set up ministry will give priority to public services and provide benefits to the state. According to the prime minister, once the restructuring of the ICT Ministry, with the new name, is finalised, the government will forward the plan to the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) for further consideration and a final decision.
