Thailand Songkran road death toll over 250

BANGKOK, April 14 (TNA) - It has been five days for road safety campaigns for this Songkran festival and traffic accidents have killed more than 250 people in Thailand. The Road Safety Center said just for April 13, there were 671 traffic accidents in which 724 people were injured and 60 were killed. The highest number of accidents was reported in Nakhon Si Thammarat province while the highest number of deaths was in Surat Thani province. Across Thailand, from April 9 to 13, there were a total of 2,406 road accidents, 2,532 people were injured and 251 others died. The most common causes were drunk driving and speeding. More than 80% of the accidents involved motorcycles and 29.46% of the motorcyclists did wear a helmet. (TNA)
