Thailand to upgrade education

BANGKOK, September 4 (TNA) - The Thai government, through the Ministry of Education, will apply technologies to upgrade the national education system. Chinnapat Bhumirat, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education's Basic Education Commission, announced the policy on Wednesday, after Thailand's education was recently ranked the 8th in the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations by the World Economic Forum (WEF). Chinnapat said he did not know about the criteria that the WEF had used for the rating and Thai Education Minister Chaturon Chaisaeng had ordered concerned officials to check them, but he promised that his ministry will apply technologies to further develop Thailand's education system. Chinnapat insisted that his office has tried to steadily raise Thailand's educational standards by using teaching technologies and media to stimulate student's analyses, instead of rote learning. The senior official expressed his confidence that Thailand's education is good at a certain extent. In the latest educational service rating by the WEF, Thailand was ranked the 8th in ASEAN after Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, the Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia and Vietnam. (TNA)
