Thailand to work with UN on illegal Uighur immigrants

BANGKOK, March 18 (TNA) - Caretaker Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra says that Thailand has coordinated with the United Nations in settling the problem of 220 illegal Muslims immigrants who were recently arrested in the Thai South. Yingluck told journalists on Tuesday that Thailand will continue taking care of the 220 illegal Muslim immigrants, who have been detained in the southern Songkhla Province, in accordance with international human rights principles. The 220 illegal Muslim immigrants, comprising 78 men, 60 women and 82 children, are believed to have fled from China's Xinjiang Uighur autonomous region. The caretaker prime minister also acknowledged the Chinese government has contacted her caretaker government that Beijing wants to bring the Muslim immigrants back to China and she has, thus, asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss and work with China based on international norms.(TNA)
